Training Methodology
At UB Haven, we focus on humane, ethical, and science-based behavior consulting and dog training. Our approach emphasizes positive reinforcement and permission-based techniques, helping dogs and their people build lasting trust, confidence, and effective communication.
We understand that every dog and family has a unique history. If you’ve previously used different tools or methods, that’s completely okay. Our goal is to provide guidance and strategies that are safe, effective, and tailored to your dog’s needs, creating a supportive space for learning and growth.
By applying the principles of operant conditioning, we reinforce desired behaviors and implement management strategies to address unwanted ones. Our sessions empower pet parents with the knowledge and skills to set their dogs up for success, not just during training, but throughout daily life.
For comfort and convenience, sessions are conducted virtually via Zoom. This allows you to train your dog in your own environment while receiving personalized guidance and creating tailored protocols for the situations your dog may encounter. Together, we’ll develop management strategies and teach replacement behaviors to help modify any unwanted habits effectively and compassionately.
We are committed to reducing stress and anxiety in dogs while strengthening the bond between pets and their parents. Pain, fear, and intimidation are never part of our methods. Aversive tools such as prong collars, choke chains, slip leads, and electronic collars are not used in our work. Instead, we focus on safe, ethical equipment like harnesses and halters, and on teaching proactive, positive strategies that set both you and your dog up for success.
At UB Haven, the well-being of both dogs and their people comes first. Our training methodology is designed to make the learning process positive, safe, and effective, creating a confident, compassionate, and lasting partnership between you and your dog.
