Methodology

At UB Haven, we prioritize humane and ethical dog training methods. Our approach is firmly grounded in scientific evidence, particularly in the use of positive reinforcement training. Our team witnesses the success of positive reinforcement and permission-based training every day. Our training strategies are rooted in the principles of operant conditioning, whereby we reinforce desired behaviors and use management techniques to eliminate unwanted behaviors.

We believe in empowering pet parents with knowledge and skills to set their dogs up for success. Our training involves not only teaching dogs the desired behaviors, but also educating pet parents on how to create a conducive environment for their dogs. We work with pet parents to develop protocols for various situations their dogs may face, as well as provide management techniques and replacement behaviors to modify any undesirable behaviors.

We are committed to reducing stress and anxiety in dogs and building trust and confidence between pets and their parents. Therefore, we do not use pain, fear, or intimidation in our training. We strictly prohibit the use of aversive tools such as prong collars, choke chains, slip leads, and electronic collars. Instead, we recommend safe and ethical equipment such as harnesses and halters.

At UB Haven, we prioritize the wellbeing of both dogs and their parents. We strive to make the training process a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
